The levels follow the SAC hiking scale of the Swiss Alpine Club — the same standard used on signposts and in guidebooks across the Alps.

T1 – Hiking: Well-cleared path, flat or gently sloping, no risk of falling. Trainers are fine.
T2 – Mountain hiking: Continuous trail, partly steep. Sure-footedness and proper hiking shoes required.
T3 – Demanding mountain hiking: The trail is not visible everywhere on the ground. Exposed sections may be secured with ropes or chains — sure-footedness, a head for heights and some sense of direction are expected.
T4 – Alpine hiking: Stretches without a visible trail, occasional use of hands. Exposed terrain, tricky grass slopes and snowfields. For experienced hikers with mountain boots.

The selection in the app sets an upper limit: choosing T2 also plans T1 paths, but nothing harder.

The scale officially goes up to T6. From T5 onwards it becomes trackless alpine terrain that cannot sensibly be planned on a screen — which is why the selection stops at T4.
